Program DOM MENDELSOHNA
Celem programu jest stworzenie do roku 2009 otwartego centrum kulturowego w dawnym domu przedpogrzebowym "Bet Tahara" przy Cmentarzu Żydowskim w Olsztynie. Budynek został wzniesiony w roku 1913 wg projektu wybitnego architekta Ericha Mendelsohna. Jest to jedyne dzieło tego twórcy w jego mieście rodzinnym - i niestety ostatnią zachowaną pamiątką po ludności żydowskiej w Olsztynie. Bet Tahara symbolizuje nowoczesność i otwartość na równi z tradycją i zakorzenieniem w historii. "Borussia" angażuje się nie tylko w zachowanie tego miejsca, ale również w przeobrażenie go w żywe centrum spotkania, pamięci oraz debaty. Równolegle do remontu domu organizujemy wydarzenia, z pomocą których DOM MENDELSOHNA już teraz zaczyna istnieć w świadomości kulturowej miasta. der Reinigung „Bet Tahara“ am jüdischen Friedhof in Allenstein
ein offenes Kulturzentrum einzurichten. Das Gebäude wurde 1913 nach
Plänen des bedeutenden Architekten Erich Mendelsohn errichtet. Es blieb
das einzige Werk in seiner Heimatstadt – und ist heute leider das letzte
verbliebene Zeugnis jüdischen Lebens in Allenstein. Die Bet Tahara
symbolisiert Modernität und Offenheit der Region genauso wie Tradition und
Verankerung in der Geschichte. Borussia setzt sich dafür ein, den Ort
nicht nur zu erhalten, sondern ihn darüber hinaus zu einem lebendigen
Zentrum der Begegnung, der Erinnerung und der Auseinandersetzung auszubauen.
Parallel zur Renovierung des Hauses werden Veranstaltungen organisiert, durch
die das MENDELSOHN HAUS bereits jetzt ins kulturelle Bewusstsein der Stadt

The famous architect Erich Mendelsohn (1887-1953) realized the building in 1913 as the sole one of his oeuvre in his home town. Bet Tahara symbolizes as well modernity and openness of the region as tradition and rootedness in history. Together with the destroyed cemetery the building reminds the city of its former Jewish population - though in its current state it shows primarily evidence of carelessness and disrespect towards cultural heritage. In the framework of the program MENDELSOHN HOUSE, the Borussia Cultural Community Association is committed not only to conserve the place but moreover to build a lively center of encounter, remembering, and debate. Recently we are pushing the renovation of the building in order to save it from decay after a long period of vacancy. With municipal subsidy we will realize the renovation of the roof until end of this year. |
